Mr. David Johnson, Principal
What a great honor it is to serve as the principal of West Wilkes High School. I am grateful to be a BlackHawk, and I look forward to working hard during the 2017 – 2018 school year to provide the best educational experience possible to the students of West Wilkes. I look forward to talking with students, parents, and community members throughout the year. I hope to have the opportunity to talk with you all about the focus of our school this year. We will be focusing on the Growth Mindset and Positive Thinking. The faculty has spent the summer reading Carol Dweck’s Mindset. Our goal is to help students and parents understand the importance of a growth mindset in struggles of life.
Alex Vermeer provides a great book review of Mindset - https://alexvermeer.com/why-your-mindset-important/ . The importance of celebrating the process and having the work ethic to work through one’s struggles cannot be overlooked as we discuss mindset. I encourage everyone to read some mindset literature and reflect on your own thoughts. Carol Dweck’s book Mindset is a great book, but you can access several sources of information on the topic of growth mindset. I would like us all to ask ourselves a few questions from time to time. Parents: Do I want my child to learn, or am I more worried about him/her getting an A? Students: Am I putting in the amount of work required to achieve my goals?
I look forward to working with you all this year to make 2017-18 The Best School Year Ever!

Mrs. Amanda Pruitt, Assistant Principal
I am very excited to work with the students, families and staff of West Wilkes High School. I have worked as a teacher and school administrator in three high schools during my 12 year tenure in education. West Wilkes High School is a great place to serve. Teachers, staff members and students are dedicated to success inside the school building and in the community.
A little about myself, I am happily married to my husband Timothy, of almost 16 years. We have two children—a son, Corban and our daughter, Caydence. We enjoy spending time together as a family and are excited to be a part of the West Wilkes family as well.
As we look forward to another school year, we are very excited to see the great things our Blackhawks will achieve. These accomplishments will require hard work and determination. Thank you for your efforts in encouraging our students to always put their heart into all they do!
