Injuries & Treatment

Injured Student Athlete

Athletes who are unable to participate in activity due to an injury MUST be evaluated by the
BOC Certified and NC Licensed Athletic Trainer contracted to the school by Atrium Health
Wake Forest Baptist as soon as possible. If the Athletic Trainer is unavailable at the time of the injury please contact the Athletic Trainer by email; [email protected] , or phone; (336)-903-6743.

If an athlete has been seen by a physician regarding any injury or illness, they must inform the Athletic Trainer prior to the return to sport to ensure safe and eligible participation.

Treatment and Rehabilitation:

In order to promote an efficient full recovery, treatment should be conducted as soon as possible. BEING HURT DOES NOT MEAN OUT. Many believe that if they report an injury, they will be held out of competition. Often times modified participation or assistive protection/bracing may be all that is needed. Ultimately our focus is to provide appropriate rehab to any injury so that the athlete is able to play in a safe manner with optimal performance. As this might be the case, the reasoning for holding an athlete out of competition is backed by medical research to keep the student athlete safe. If they do not seek medical help, they run a higher risk of making a small injury worse, thus increasing the amount of time away from participation.

Taping will be done if the student athlete is performing their rehab, there is a medical benefit, and provides a reduced risk of reinjury.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO ENSURE THAT ANY INJURED STUDENT ATHLETE IS REPORTING TO THE ATHLETIC TRAINING ROOM DAILY. With daily interaction, we are able to provide modifications to participation or adjustments to rehabilitation to ensure each student-athlete is able to participate to their fullest potential in a safe manner.
