Graduation Project

Every senior is required to complete a Graduation Project. Graduation Project offers students a chance to individualize their learning as they learn 21st Century Skills that will prepare them for life after high school.
 
Upon completion, each senior is required to present their project to a panel of 2-4 judges which may consist of administrators, teachers, and/or community members. 

Requirements

- A research paper

  • For specifics, ask your English teacher

 

- A mentor providing guidance and overseeing your work

  • Mentor must be over the age of 25, not an immediate family member, and have experience in the subject area

 

- Project hours - a minimum of 7 hours spent doing one of the following: 

  • Creation of a product or learning a new skill
  • Job shadowing 
  • Service/volunteer hours

 

- WCS required GP documentation (see below)

 

- A presentation of project activities

  • Must be around 4-6 minutes in length, given orally, and provide visual references.
  • Must include at least 10 photos of student working on their project
  • One of the ten photos needs to be of the student with their mentor (can be a screenshot via Zoom/Google Meet, if needed)
 

Student Responsibilities

- Submit a written proposal (GP2) to be approved by the GP committee prior to beginning the project.

- Select and research a topic of interest, develop a research paper, complete the required project hours, and create a presentation showcasing project accomplishments.

- Work with a mentor (in collaboration with other community partners, business representatives, and other school-based personnel) in the development of the graduation project.

- Keep a log of activities, events, and meetings which take place during completion of the project hours.

- Turn in all required project documentation.

- Present the completed graduation project before an audience composed of teachers, other school personnel, and/or community members.

- Be responsible for submitting receipts and any other proof of financial expense to WCS if he/she intends to apply for reimbursement of expenditures.
