Hunter Skills

Mission/Purpose:

The West Wilkes Hunter Skills Team strives to educate team members in firearm safety and ethically sound hunting practices, thereby developing better educated and responsible sportsmen, and women, of the future.
 

Requirements to Join:

Must have successfully completed a state approved Hunter Education course. Team member dues are $375 which includes all ammunition and targets for practice and events as well as a team t-shirt. This cost can be offset by fundraising prior to the season. Information is given out at our parent informational meeting in the fall.
 

Activities:

We have four disciplines that we practice for our Hunter Skills tournament. Those are skeet shooting with either a 12 gauge or 22 gauge shotgun, Rifle target shooting with a .22 rifle, Archery, and Hunter Skills which includes knowledge of hunter safety, history of firearms, firearm components, animal identification, laws and regulations associated with hunting and orienteering.

Meeting Times/Activities:

October - May Range practice
Saturday mornings
Classroom practice during FLEX time and some after school evenings
